Hola

We were hoping to attend the below seminar as a group. Kathryn Lehman will be translating so the main talk will be in a majority of Spanish. We are going to meet at 5 (like normal) on campus to speak Spanish among ourselves before heading over. Fi and Steph will be at the Tables in the foyer level 1 of the business school from 5 (that way if people
want to eat or drink we can head up to spicers (level 3)).

Looking forward to seeing you all again

Seminar Brought to you by UNYANZ:
Dr Edine von Herold Duarte, MP of the Costa Rican Congress:
"Nuclear Weapons Abolition and Disarmament for Development"

Wednesday 21 April, 6:00pm
University of Auckland,
22 Princes Street - Clock Tower - Lecture Theatre

Key Topics for Discussion
(a) nuclear weapons abolition
(b) disarmament for development
(c) the Depleted Uranium issue, especially as New Zealand has not yet
banned such weapons.

About Dr Edine von Herold Duarte
As an MP in the Costa Rican Congress, Dr von Herold has passed a number of bills adopted by the Costa Rican legislature including one to prohibit Depleted Uranium weapons manufacture in its Free Trade Zones. She has been appointed onto the Global Council for Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-Proliferation Disarmament (PNND). At von Herold's proposal, the entire Costa Rican Parliament has voted to endorse a declaration in support of a nuclear weapons convention.

About Costa Rica's Peace Initiatives
Costa Rica has a number of international peace initiatives – abolition of armies, disarmament for development (implementing Article 26 of the UN Charter), promotion of a Nuclear Weapons Convention, regional restrictions on small arms and light weapons, as well as a global arms trade treaty. They have also just adopted legislation banning Depleted Uranium weapons.
